Thee Hypnotics - Love In A Different Vein ( Hipsville 1988 )

One of the most "Detroit" bands that emerged from London UK in the late 80s/early 90s underground! Here is a 2-tracker from 1988!
http://rapidshare.com/files/142076229/1988-THEE_Hypz.rar.html
Assembling a host of 1967 psychedelic fuzz-guitar stars — Blue Cheer, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, etc. — as primary influences, adding a bit of Pretty Things/Rolling Stones ambience and jamming on a frenzied Stooges/MC5 drive, this quartet from High Wycombe, a town northwest of London, handily re-created the pre-Zeppelin era with more flair than most. Singer James Jones knows all the right moves, as does guitarist Ray Hanson, who pulls off the neat trick of overdubbing several different specific styles in a single song.

v.a BLOW UP Presents: Exclusive Blend Vol. 3 ( Blow Up 2000 )

Third one of the legendary exclusive blend series from Blow Up crew!!
Volume 3 in the killer Blow Up Exclusive Blend series brings us 16 great early 70s tracks from the French Telemusic Library, compiled in Paris by Blow Up's founder and DJ Paul Tunkin.
French music library Telemusic issued its first recordings in 1968, which have covered a wealth of musical styles over the past few decades. The eclectic nature, as is common with most of the music libraries was to accomodate the varied requirements of essentially TV, Radio and Film synchronisation.
Blow Up presents: Exclusive Blend Volume 3 focuses on the early 70s dancefloor element of Telemusic's Jazz and R'n'B recordings with some Gallic soundtrack vibes thrown in for good measure.

The Scientists - Pissed On Another Planet ( Sympathy 2004 )

Reissue of the Aussie proto-punk outfit's 1990 EP includes three bonus tracks covering the period 1979-1981, 'Girl', 'Lookin' For You', & 'Walk The Plank', plus a bonus disc with an additional nine tracks - 'Don't You Lie To Me', 'Sorry Sorry Sorry', 'Girl', 'Looking For You', 'Makin' A Scene', 'Sorry Sorry Sorry', 'Another Sunday', 'Walk The Plank' & 'It'll Never Happen Again'.
Kim Salmon's Scientists were certainly ahead of their time in 1979 when recording this collection, which contains their classic "Frantic Romantic" (if one can imagine the singing in an Australian accent, one can understand that this is a classic punk stuff). Though the Scientists were never so obsessed with the genre, their sound was a hybrid of the Seeds' hard psychedelia, Big Star, and the Stooges -- and this made them stand out from the rest. While the Saints would popularize this power pop sound, the Scientists' relative obscurity could be attributed to the wanton guitar fury and swampy rhythmic styling that made them a little less accessible. However, Salmon may be post-punk royalty in his home country as well as in the stable of Sub Pop, which signed the group for its back catalog in the early '90s -- and which should demonstrate to some the vitality of this antipodean group.

Husker Du - New Day Rising ( SST 1985 )

Follow up to "Zen Arcade" on SST in 1985!
Though less sprawlingly ambitious than prior album Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, in some ways, abandoned hardcore punk entirely, and helped set the template for alternative rock for the next decade. While retaining the speed and aggression of earlier efforts, virtually all of the songs on New Day Rising exhibit a strong pop sensibility. Guitarist/main singer Bob Mould's trademark miasma of fuzz distortion is still present, but with much of the harsh rawness of previous efforts abandoned in favor of a more melodic sound.

v.a BLOW UP Presents: Exclusive Blend Vol. 2 ( Blow Up 1997)

Second instalment from the the legendary Blow Up Exclusive Blend Series!!!
http://rapidshare.com/files/122609969/bu_eb2.rar.html

Incredibly groovy -- and a monster batch of sound library tunes! The set's the second in a series put together by the Brit Easy masterminds at the Blow Up offices -- and it mines through further grooves from the KPM catalog, as well as other tracks from DeWolfe, Amphonic, and Sylvester imprints. The set's filled with smoking Hammond grooves, hard drums, fuzzy guitar, and loads of other wonderful instrumental touches -- and the quality of the material is excellent, as these cuts were put together by some of the finest musicians working in the London studio scene! Musicians include Claudio Vasori, Keith Mansfield, James Clarke, and Alan Moorhouse -- and tracks include the massive breakbeat classic "Soul Skimmer", plus "Lucky Seven", "Close Shave", "Underlay No 3", "New Project", "This Way Up", "Second Cut", and "Funky Fanfare

Husker Du - Zen Arcade ( SST 1984 )

Zen Arcade is the third studio LP from Husker Du, released in July 1984 on SST Records. Originally released as a double album on two vinyl LPs, Zen Arcade is a concept album about an adolescent who runs away because his home life is unfulfilling, only to find the world outside is even worse. The album incorporates elements of jazz, psychedelia, acoustic folk, pop, and piano interludes, concepts previously unheard-of in the world of hardcore punk.
Zen Arcade and subsequent Hüsker Dü albums were instrumental in the creation of the alternative rock genre; the band would later abandon the hardcore aesthetic entirely in favor of a post-hardcore style of melodic, guitar-driven alternative rock. While not commercially successful, the influence of Zen Arcade has stretched beyond the underground music sphere, and it is frequently included on lists of the all-time best rock and roll albums and more recently it has gained a cult following.

The Urges - Psych Ward ( Screaming Apple 2007 )

Debut LP and an ultra cool dynamite from the Irish Garage Punk Hellraisers The Urges!!! Unbeatable!!!
(Link removed)
Born out of suburban frustration The Urges started out in a damp Dublin garage in late 2004. With little or no musical knowledge they set out to write nothing but raw stripped down rock 'n' roll. Since then they have enjoyed the success of their debut single '(Around &) Around Again' which topped the Irish charts in the summer of 2005 and have played along side many big named bands such as The Zutons, The La's, Wild Billy Childish, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, The Buzzcocks, Babyshambles, Kulashaker and just about every major garage band since the 60's (The Electric Prunes, The Remains, The Cynics, The Pretty Things). They have been included on a number of compilations with the likes of The Hives, 5678's, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Chesterfield Kings & have spent the last year playing festivals throughout Europe including Oxygen (David Bowie, The Strokes, P.J. Harvey, The Kings of Leon) and the notorious Primitive Festival in Rotterdam, Holland (Von Bondies, The Mighty Ceasars, The Chesterfield Kings) The Urges sound can be traced as far back as the mid 60's where primal fuzztone and psychedelic organ kicked of real rock 'n' roll - all the way up to the present day where indie garage rock could not be a more domineering musical force. When it comes to live shows The Urges don't resort to filling a set with pagiarized riffs & shoe gazing, their performances are both primal & chaotic emanating a threat of violence which makes the men stand back & makes the girls step forward! The Urges effortlessly drift in and out of different timings & melodies but constantly maintain an authentic yet primitive sound which always leaves the crowd crying for more. Having spent the last two years honing their sound The Urges have managed to capture this on their debut album. A new generation of teenage psych-punk bands is hitting the scene these days and the leaders of this movement are without any doubt the amazing Urges, which 'Psych ward' proves impressively. They can be best described as the missing link between those old titans of the 60's, such as the Music Machine, the Seeds and the Electric Prunes and the 'Paisley Underground' of the 80's with bands like the Morlocks, Fuzztones and Miracle Workers. In fuzz we trust!!! The vinyl comes in a lim. edition of 700 Copies. A CD Version of the album will be out the same date on the way cool australian OFF THE HIP label. Half Man Half Biscuit - The Trumpton Riots e.p ( TRUMP 1986 )

The acerbic post-punk outfit Half Man Half Biscuit was formed in Birkenhead, England in 1984 by singer/guitarist Nigel Blackwell, his guitarist brother Si, bassist Neil Crossley and drummer Paul Wright. While still languishing in relative obscurity, in 1985 they entered the studio to record their debut LP, Back in the D.H.S.S.; upon its release, the album became a favorite of DJ John Peel, and seemingly overnight Half Man Half Biscuit became stars of the British independent music scene. The album quickly grabbed the top spot on the U.K. indie charts, and eventually ranked as the best-selling independent record of 1986.
A 1986 EP, Trumpton Riots, followed Back in the D.H.S.S. to number one, but Half Man Half Biscuit shunned the spotlight; they refused several offers to perform on TV, and while enjoying a major hit with the single "Dickie Davies' Eyes" announced their break-up in the autumn of 1986. A collection of B-sides and unreleased material, Back Again in the D.H.S.S., followed a year later; finally, in 1990 the Blackwell brothers and Crossley reformed the band, issuing the LP McIntyre, Treadmore and Davitt in 1991. This Leaden Pall appeared two years later, with Some Call It Godcore following in 1995.
